With the new game engine, it's often 3-4 minutes before a position for the last 10 minute update is posted. In that time, at top speed, you've moved about 1.5miles. That can be really significant if you are around an obstruction or near a transition zone.

My question is, when you hit "Go" on the router, does it perform its calculation as if the position entered was where you were at the last even 10-minute point, or does it assume that's where you are now and has a short stub segment at the beginning of the route?

It is possible to get a more accurate estimated position in the 3D view (about the only value it has imho).

The router rounds down the time to the previous 10 minutes. Which happens to be exactly the game time step now. So you are calling it for your last calculated position at the time it was calculated.

Okay, so my method of manually entering the coordinates from the 3D view, is not more accurate, just gets you a route a few minutes sooner.

Exiting and entering the race at about 1.5 mins gets me an updated server position before the refresh button appears about a minute later ... not really necessary unless you are impatient.

The other option is to get your position from selecting your boat in the ranking out of the race from the race tile which also updates earlier - handy for me on my phone which closes the boat info within a race if I try to switch apps but not using that method and the info is visible in the switch apps screen.

Thanks for those tips MignightFoiler. I've had the coincidence a couple of times today where weather updates exactly coincided with gybe times from the previous forecast. Even a few minutes is meaningful if you are trying to decide whether to complete the gybe or carry on. I'm sure no one likes it when you've just completed a manoeuvre and a few minutes later the forecast update is telling you to reverse it.

That's also what I for for fresh position. Exit and enter the race about 1:30 minutes after the update. And you can repeat it if it's too early, unlike the disappearing refresh.

You can also plan turns more often than 10 minutes, unlike the router, so it's never very precise.

The router output will also inevitably drift over time. Weather changes, time step changes. All that causes small variations every 10 minutes.
